About this course

In this self-paced course,  you will learn to understand and utilize the potential of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the EU. The course will focus on Organic Certification.

In June 2016, the six SADC states Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Eswatini signed an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union. The EPAs are a set of trade agreements that aim to extend beyond the scope of traditional agreements by creating partnerships that implement trade to foster sustainable development and regional integration. This course has been created to provide non-governmental actors, especially from the private sector in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), with in-dept knowledge on organic certification under the agreement, enabling them to understand and utilize its potentials.

Who is this course for? 
Entrepreneurs from the SADC EPA region who aim at exporting organic products into the European Union under the EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

What will you learn? 

You will be able to describe the organic market situation and trends in the EU and in the SADC EPA countries, as well as the existing EU regulations. You will be able to identify EU consumers’ preferences as well as opportunities of and barriers to accessing EU markets for organic products. You will be to able to apply recommended do's and dont's when it comes to exporting to the EU.
