About this course

This self-paced course will provide participants with a clear understanding of the environmental, social and cultural aspects associated with the elephant-based tourism in southeast Asia. This course has been designed to analyse the industry from an impartial and non-biased perspective, providing a realistic overview of sector strengths and weaknesses.

 

Who is this course for?

This course has been created for all stakeholders holding an interest in the elephant-based tourism industry. This may include travel associates, tour guides, government tourism representatives and staff from non-government organisations. Participants can use knowledge gained from this course to improve their tour guide skills, make informed business decisions, and design their own marketing strategies and campaigns. The course is designed for industry beginners, and no prior knowledge of the elephant-based tourism sector is required to complete the course.  

 

What will you learn?

This course covers key issues associated with Asian elephants throughout southeast Asia. This includes the currents threats facing wild Asian elephant populations; ecological and cultural benefits of a captive elephant population; key issues impacting the elephant-based tourism sector, and strategies and methods to improve, market and communicate the benefits of responsible and ethical elephant-based tourism to visitors.
