This self-paced course on inclusive Contract Farming (iCF) is designed to introduce the concept of iCF to various interested parties. The aim is not to present the complex topic in its entirety, but to give an idea of what lies behind the approach, why it can be used to support small farmers, farmers' associations and SMEs, and how it contributes to sustainable development.

Who is this course for?
The target group of the e-learning course is diverse:
  • Employees of GIZ and partner organisations who are responsible for promoting iCF in general and facilitating the introduction/ sustainable use of innovations.
  • Decision makers of farmers' associations and companies that already implement CF programmes or are interested in developing CF programmes.
  • Young people and students interested in becoming agripreneurs and in working in agriculture or related activities along the value chains of the agri-food industry.
  • Consultants and other experts with a background in promoting value chain development in the agri-food industry, rural economic development, farmers' associations and the like.
  • Experts selected to participate in in-depth training for staff and partner organisations or in training/coaching (ToTC).
  • A broader public of people interested in CF in general and the promotion of iCF in developing countries (e.g. other donors).

In 4 modules, you will be able to learn about the following topics:
  • Introduction to Contract Farming (Module 1)
  • Typology of Contract Farming Models Module 2)
  • Methodology for Promoting ICF (Module 3)
  • Conclusions: Contract Farming in the Wider Context of General Economic Development (Module 4)

How much time do you need to invest?
Every module takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes
